No matter how hard you try to avoid it, things like pet accidents, juice, and mud somehow find their way onto your carpet. So what can be done when these tough stains occur?
Don’t worry, the pros at Revive Chem-Dry have compiled our best tips for treating different types of stains on your carpet.
Treating Water-Soluble Carpet Stains
Water-soluble stains consist of things like latex paint, washable ink, vomit, blood, chocolate, berries, or drinks. Using a simple cleaning solution typically works well to remove these types of stains.
Try mixing 1 tablespoon ammonia with 1 cup of water, or ¼ teaspoon of white vinegar with 32 ounces of water to treat these stains. However, don’t use them on wool or wool-blend carpet. Try a mild detergent with warm water instead.
Treating Wax And Oily Carpet Stains
Try placing ice on top of wax, gum, or similar substances on your carpet, then pick it out with a blunt knife. You may also try covering the stain with a paper towel then ironing over it on a warm setting.
Lightly cover the area with rubbing alcohol for glue spilled on carpet, then wipe it away gently. For nail polish, use a rag dipped in a small amount of nail polish remover. Just test an area of your carpet first to make sure it doesn’t discolor the fibers.
Treating Pet Urine And Odors On Carpet
Try absorbing as much of the stain as possible with a towel, then use a homemade or store-bought cleaning solution to remove the stain. Remember that in order for pet stains and their associated odor to be removed completely, you’ll need to schedule a professional pet urine and odor removal treatment at least once each year.
